Trails

The Lariat Loop National Scenic Byway, a historic route winding through the foothills of Golden, Colorado, isn't just for scenic drives. It's also a gateway to an incredible network of hiking trails, offering everything from easy strolls to challenging ascents, all with breathtaking views.

Alderfer/Three Sisters Park: Located near Evergreen, this park boasts over 15 miles of trails. You can wander through ponderosa pine forests, marvel at dramatic rock formations known as the Three Sisters, and even spot local wildlife. The Evergreen Mountain trail offers a moderate climb with panoramic views of the surrounding foothills and Continental Divide. 

Lookout Mountain Park: Just a short drive up from Golden, Lookout Mountain offers both history and stunning vistas. The trails here range from paved paths to more rugged dirt trails, leading to overlooks where you can see the entire Denver metro area, the distant plains, and the majestic Rockies. Don’t miss the Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave at the summit! 

Apex Park: For those seeking a bit more adventure, Apex Park near Golden offers a network of multi-use trails popular with hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. The Enchanted Forest trail, with its lush vegetation and stream crossings, is a local favorite. Be prepared for some elevation gain, but the peaceful surroundings and beautiful scenery are well worth the effort.

The Matthews/Winters Park trail: Jefferson County, Colorado, offers a delightful escape into the foothills, providing a diverse hiking experience for all levels. This popular park, located near Red Rocks Amphitheatre, boasts a rich history and stunning natural beauty.
